This book presents a description of a voyage from the summer capital of British India - Simla, to the capital of China - Peking. It is a long over land journey through the wild lands of Tibet, high Asia and China under taken in the early 20th century.
Bruce was a career soldier who among other postings was Commander of the 1st Chinese Regiment (a British Army regiment also known as the Weihaiwei Regiment) and from 1907 to 1913 Captain Superintendent of the Shanghai Municipal Police.
